Interpretation and Culture

30th April – 7th May 2017  (To coincide with St Georges Day)

Day 1

Flight to Sofia, arrive; Transfer from the Airport to Hotel in Sofia – shared twin rooms. Walk around the city center. Dinner in a restaurant.

Day 2: 

Breakfast in the hotel. In the morning – a walk around the Roman remains in the center of Sofia, visit to Archaeological or Ethnographic museum or Polytechnical museum /here we can meet the director Ms Tzekova and discuss about the trainings they organize for students/. Lunch in the city and then drive to Plovdiv – 2 hours and walk in the old town – architectural reserve. Visit to Roman Theater and Forum. Late drive to Hisarya and accommodation for 2 nights in a hotel. Dinner in the town.

Day 3:

Breakfast in the hotel. In the morning – visit to Starosel Thracian complex. Picnic lunch or lunch with wine tasting /extra payment/ in Starosel winery restaurant. In the afternoon – visit to Archaeological museum and meeting the director Dr. Madzharov /expert in Roman archaeology/ and curators. Discussion about their work. Walk around the Roman walls and Baths of the ancient Roman town of Diocleciano Polis – modern Hisarya. Training in Roman construction of baths and roads.

Day 4: 

Breakfast in the hotel. Travel to Kazanlak and visit to Museum with golden Thracian artifacts and 2 Thracian tombs. Discussion with local experts – training about Thracian cultural heritage. Late drive through Shipka Pass to Etara. Accommodation in the hotel for 2 nights and dinner in local tavern.

Day 5: 

bg-etera045Breakfast in the hotel. Training in Etara Ethnographic complex – various crafts /weaving with maize leaves, dying with natural elements. Lunch in the complex. Discussion with Rosi Bineva – curator of ethnography about the new projects in Etara, work with children and the trainings organized in Children`s corner. Dinner and night in Etara.

Day 6: 

Breakfast in the hotel. Drive through Gabrovo – a visit to Museum of Humour and discussion with Galina Boneva – expert and curator. Drive to Sevlievo and visit to Hotalich – a medieval fortress and town recently adapted for tourists. Picnic lunch or on the road. In the afternoon – drive to Eco Art guest house of Vili Gankovska in Drashkova polyana village near Troyan for 2 nights. Working in the ceramic atelier of Encho Gankovski. Dinner with homemade meals.

Day 7:

In the morning – drive to Troyan Museum of Crafts and National Exhibition of crafts in Oreshak, and Troyan monastery. Ceramic training or other domestic crafts. Dinner and night in the guesthouse.

Day 8:

Breakfast, travel to Sofia and on the road a stop by Roman military station Sostra. Depart from Sofia airport at …

2 nights in Hisarya

2 night in Etara,

2 nights in guesthouse Eco Art /Villi/
